RENEE PIETERSE (She/Her)

Provisional Psychologist – Bachelor of Science (Human structure and function), Graduate Diploma of Psychological Science, Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), Masters of Clinical Psychology

Renee is a compassionate registered provisional psychologist and mental health support worker who has a diverse range of experience from her two roles. With a comprehensive education background, Renee has attained a well-rounded understanding of the interaction between an individual’s physical and psychological functioning, and how these can all impact one another.

Renee prefers a person-centred approach to therapy, with a genuine desire to maintaining a positive rapport with each client, and creating a safe non-judgemental space to allow individuals to feel comfortable exploring their experiences and challenges. Renee’s therapeutic approaches, include CBT, DBT and mindfulness practices. Through her current experience and training, the foundations of CBT allow her to attain an understanding of her patients’ maladaptive thoughts, feelings and behaviours, which typically perpetuate the struggles individuals face. By identifying and becoming aware of these negative factors, she is able to work alongside her clients to determine which modality will best be suited to improve these. Renee ensures that the modality chosen is tailored to each person, and is not afraid to combine different approaches to address individual struggles, working alongside her patients to meet their needs and goals for therapy. Renee is additionally very interested in family based therapy, and will be conducting training in order to upskill and incorporate when appropriate.

As a mental health support worker, Renee enjoys working with adults and children across a wide range of presentations. Renee is passionate about the importance of mental health and the necessity of removing stigma associated with eating disorders. Renee believes in the importance of developing healthy coping mechanisms, improving self-esteem, and ultimately helping individuals overcome the power eating disorders can hold and work towards living a more fulfilling life. Renee is motivated to continue learning and gaining experience in order to provide the best care possible to her patients.
