Niki Najafi

NIKI NAJAFI

Clinical Psychology Registrar, BPsych (Hons) (Cognitive Neuroscience), MPsych (Clin), MAPS

Niki is a registered Psychologist and a Clinical Psychology Registrar. She uses a collaborative approach that aims to empower her clients in making steps towards recovery. Niki utilises an empathetic approach and transparency to create a safe space for her clients. She has a particular interest in working to improve body acceptance and enhance relationship with food and eating. She has a holistic approach towards individuals and enjoys working with a diverse range of clients. Niki is passionate about providing evidence-based treatment to individuals and their families affected by a range of mental health difficulties.

Niki completed her Master’s thesis on exploring whether disordered eating in men can be predicted by interoceptive impairment and alexithymia. She has experience working across academia, schools, community-based NGO, hospital and private practice. She has her general registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and abides by Australian Psychological Society (APS) professional conduct codes and standards. She has experience specialising in eating disorders including anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), binge eating disorder (BED), avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) and body image difficulties. Niki is trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments like Enhanced cognitive behaviour for eating disorders (CBT-E), Family-based treatment (FBT), Specialist Supportive Clinical Management (SSCM), cognitive behaviour therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR), etc.

As well as eating disorders, Niki has experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma, bringing a trauma-informed lens into her practice. Niki also has experience helping people with Anxiety and mood disorders, such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder. She has also worked with individuals struggling with low self-esteem, alcohol and other drugs, PTSD, and personality disorders.

Away from her clinical work, Niki is a massive dog lover. She will stop to pat all the dogs in her path. She enjoys spending time with her family, and friends and is a pilates enthusiast.
